How ballots work

Information about how ballots work in general and snap elections.

What does the ballot look like?

Ballots are completely digital, with all voters being sent them by email and having them made avaliable through https://democracy.govhok.uk/vote. You're typically asked for your email address and Citizen Tracking ID (Citizen ID) for verification purposes.

You must then select your assigned province, this is can be found on your citizen status acceptance email and your email from the Office of the Head of State. Email interior@govhok.uk to request your details (including your province).

After selecting your province, you will be shown a description of each candidate and then a row with your choice options (eg. 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc) with a column with your candidate options. You should make one choice per candidate, with your 1st choice being the candidate you like the most and your last choice being the candidate you dislike the most. You must choose one choice per candidate.

What happens to invalid ballots?

Any invalid ballots will not be counted by the Office of the Head of State, and you may not be notified that your ballot is invalid. It is your responsibility to ensure that your ballot is filled out correctly.
