Parties

Information about political parties.

Political parties are a key part of the State of Hokoria's democratic system, and are vital for deciding who becomes the Chancellor in the Central Government of Hokoria.

How are they formed?

Political parties must be registered with the Office of the Head of State and cannot run in elections unless approved by the Head of State. However, it's not uncommon for them to be formed informally before they are officially registered.

How are they managed?

Political parties are managed independently of the Office of the Head of State and have governance over themselves (where it is not limited by law). Parties may choose to hold internal elections, set up their own websites and create their own resources which can be supported by the Office of the Head of State, although there is limited involvement from the Office of the Head of State.

What is a merger?

Sometimes parties may share the same or similar beliefs and find it beneficial for them to merge into one party. When this happens, all members of the previous parties will be counted as members of the new merged party. Mergers cannot happen whilst a voting period is taking place. The leadership and management of merged parties is left up to the party itself with very limited involvement from the Office of the Head of State unless it is requested.

What is a coalition?

Sometimes parties may decide to work very closely with another party, where a majority would be very unlikely. When this happens, all members of the parties remain to be counted as members of their parties, however when results are counted, the parties within the coalition are counted as a single body/party. The Office of the Head of State will co-ordinate with coalitions to ensure that arangements are made about which party leader becomes the Chancellor and for how long.
